Who runs it

Simple Image Converter is built and maintained by Pedro Rodrigues, an independent developer in Portugal. It is a one-person project: the same person writes the code, tests every conversion, keeps the pages up to date and answers the emails. There is no company behind it and no team selling a premium version.

Why I built it

Converting an image should take seconds, yet most online converters ask you to upload your file, wait in a queue, create an account or install an app first. I wanted a tool that does one job — turning aPNG, JPG or WebP image into another format, or making it smaller — and gets out of the way.

How it works

Everything happens in your browser. When you choose an image, your browser decodes it, draws it onto an invisible canvas and saves the canvas again in the format you picked, using the Canvas API that every modern browser includes. Your file is never uploaded, so nothing is stored on a server and there is nothing to wait for — converting locally is often quicker than uploading, especially for large photos on a slow connection. Once the page has loaded, conversions even keep working if your connection drops. The privacy policy explains the analytics and advertising cookies the site itself uses.
